Refund Policy

Last updated: 20 May 2026

Project work is partly intangible and always time-sensitive — refund terms need to be specific. Below covers the most common scenarios. Your signed proposal may add or vary terms — read it alongside this page.

01What this covers

This policy explains when and how we issue refunds for services provided by Desk of MJ Ltd (the studio). It applies to fixed-scope project engagements and to monthly retainer arrangements. The specific terms of any signed proposal or statement of work always take precedence over this page where the two overlap.

02Project deposits

Project deposits secure your place in our schedule and cover the discovery, planning, and early design work that follows. Because that work begins as soon as a deposit clears, deposits are non-refundable once we've started.

If you need to push the timeline before work begins, just let us know — we'll happily roll your deposit forward to the new start date, subject to availability.

03Milestone payments

Most projects are billed in milestones at the points named in your proposal — typically a deposit, one or more progress milestones, and a final payment on delivery. Each milestone covers the work completed up to that point.

Once a milestone is paid and accepted, that portion of the engagement is considered delivered and non-refundable.

04If you cancel mid-project

You can stop a project at any time with written notice. You remain responsible for fees covering the work performed up to the cancellation date, plus any non-refundable costs we've committed to on your behalf (third-party licences, contractor fees, scheduled ad spend, and so on).

Where work has been paid for but not yet delivered, we'll issue a refund for the unspent portion within thirty days, less the costs above.

05If we cancel mid-project

If we're unable to continue an engagement for reasons within our control, we'll refund any fees you've paid for work we haven't yet delivered. You keep ownership of anything that has already been completed and paid for.

06Retainer engagements

Retainers are billed monthly in advance and cover an agreed allocation of hours or scope. You can end a retainer at the end of any billing period with reasonable notice — typically thirty days unless your proposal says otherwise.

Mid-month cancellations do not trigger pro-rata refunds. Unused hours don't roll over unless we've agreed otherwise in writing.

07Disputes about delivery

If you're unhappy with something we've delivered, please reach out within fourteen days of receiving it. We'll review the issue and either revise the work where it falls inside the agreed scope, or talk through a fair resolution if it doesn't.

Where a deliverable falls materially short of the scope agreed in your proposal and we can't agree on a fix, we'll refund the portion of fees attributable to that specific deliverable.

08How to request a refund

Email us with your project name, the work you'd like refunded, and a short explanation. We'll respond within five business days and aim to process any approved refund within thirty days, returned to the original payment method.

09Statutory rights

Nothing in this policy affects any rights you have under UK consumer law or any other statutory rights that apply to the services we provide.
